Pierre Cromartie, PRC Communications owner, and lifelong communicator, has been on the path to broadcast Black college sports for several years. In 2018, Pierre began an effort to purchase local television stations from industry mergers in the FCC mandated divestiture of stations. After conversations with industry peers, he started to investigate the possibility of broadcasting HBCU sports on local television stations. Although individual games were being broadcast on television stations, most games could only be watched on cable channels or through a streaming service like espn or espn+. Pierre sought to change that and help bring HBCU college sports to a wider audience.
Seeking out an HBCU conference to start this journey with, PRC Communications, purchased the broadcast rights to Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) football games and basketball games earlier this year.
Realizing HBCU sports are more than just the live game, BCSBN focuses on bringing the drumline, bands, the cheerleaders, the fans, the alumni, the players, and the whole experience to life through a pregame and half-time show on linear local television. The first BCSBN broadcast of an HBCU football game took place in September, 2022 and we are continuing to bring you black college sports each season.
We are proud to support historically Black colleges and universities and bring our audience closer to the action.
